We are full of energy, knowledge and enthusiasm. Our passion is showing the beauty and magic of Coastal California and we not only impart what we know, but also bring a lot of fun into the mix. For us, the most important part of a vacation is the memories you will make. Why bother taking a massive tour bus down the freeways of the state, when you can jump in a van with some fun folks and really enjoy what California has to offer? We love it here and we know you will too.
With over a decade each of combined travel and tourism experience, we know what it takes to make an epic vacation. We've worked for the best of the best in the active travel industry and are excited to take our refined trip leading skills to our well-planned coastal journey itinerary.

Kelly English: A born and raised California girl, Kelly spent her early years tide-pooling in the Monterey Bay and camping in Big Sur. Though an aspiring marine-biologist, the University of Colorado pulled her away from California and she promptly changed her focus to International Affairs and French. After a year in France, a year in Japan, a year in New Zealand, and several months backpacking around South America, Kelly landed in San Francisco, a mere two hours from her hometown of Monterey. She realized that if you never leave, it's harder to appreciate where you're from. Kelly went to work for Backroads (The World's #1 Active Travel Company) where she lead trips around the country, but was always itching to get back to the California Coast. She adores showing people around and has perfected the personalized tour from experience. There is nothing Kelly enjoys more than sharing the piece of the world she loves most with people who don't have the opportunity to spend time there! A trip down the coast with Kelly would be filled with personal anecdotes, local lore and history, an in-depth knowledge of every bakery and coffee shop along the way, a bit of biology and most importantly, an option to take a jog along one of the many bike paths!

About Explore California

Bryan Rees: A Chilean-born, California convert, whose enthusiasm for the beauty of the California Coast is as contagious as his smile. After obtaining his MBA in International Business, he ventured out into corporate America for several years working all over the world. Eventually, he traded that lifestyle in for a backpack and a plane-ticket then let his lustful sense of adventure take over. A year and a half and 50+ countries later, Bryan found himself applying for a job that combined his two biggest passions: an active lifestyle and travel. He went to work for Backroads (The World's #1 Active Travel Company) for 6 years, splitting his time between hemispheres and taking people on vacations of a lifetime. He always felt drawn to Northern California and after settling in San Francisco for several years, felt compelled to share with others the natural beauty that so struck him when he first arrived. As a leader for the trip you take down the California Coast, Bryan knows the secret spots that only locals know, insightful facts about the area, the best photo spots along the way, and where to find the culinary delights only found in California.
